Where is Denmark?

Denmark is only an approximately 40 minute drive west of Albany. Check out my guide on things to do in Albany. You can combine them both into one epic trip.

How to get to Denmark?

The fastest and most practical way is to drive.

By Car: Perth to Denmark is 461 kilometres. It takes approximately 4.5 hours to drive from Perth to Denmark via the Albany Highway.

By Air: flights from Perth Airport to Albany Airport take just over an hour. Hire a car to explore when you land.

How many days should I spend in Denmark?

I recommend at least 3-4 days to explore the main attractions. But you could stay up to a week if you want to explore slower and have more time to try the amazing local wineries or spend more days soaking up the sun on the beaches.

Top Things to do in Denmark, Western Australia

1. Visit the iconic Elephant Rock

A unique rock formation that is said to look like a herd of elephants in the shallow waters. A short walk from the carpark takes you to the peaceful cove where you can look out over the rocks, or continue down onto the beach for a swim.

2. Grab a beer and a bite at Boston Brewing

Established in 2011 as one of the first breweries of the Great Southern Region, you can try a range of beers and wines, some named after iconic landmarks in the region.

Relax in the sun in the beer garden, plus grab a bite to eat such as stonebaked pizza as you soak in your surroundings.

3. Snorkel at Greens Pool

Grab your snorkel and mask, you don’t want to miss these turquoise waters! William Bay National Park is a highlight in this region. It’s beautiful at all times of the year, but especially in summer when the water is warmer.

With calm waters it is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing. It is a sanctuary zone meaning it has an abundance of marine life and fish.

4. Walk amongst the trees at Valley of the Giants

An iconic region between Denmark and Walpole, you can walk 40m above the forest floor on suspended bridges through the giant tingle trees. On the ground, you can physically walk through the trees – some being over 400 years old!

5. Go fishing or spot seals at McGeary’s Rock

A fantastic rocky outlet to throw in a fishing line. Herring, bream and whiting are commonly caught here. Plus groups of seals and dolphins can be spotted here too (although not ideal if you’re fishing!)

6. Relax at Lights Beach

The views of the turquoise water will leave you in awe. Walk a bit further along to Eastern Beach, it’s quiet and peaceful and perfect for throwing in a fishing line or sunbathing.

7. Stroll the streets of Denmark town centre

A small but cute town with an array of independent shops. You can find unique clothes shops, health shops plus a fantastic independently owned fishing and outdoor shop. Make sure to grab a pie or pastry at the bakery too!

8. Best Beaches of Denmark

Parry Beach and Madfish Bay are beautiful spots with stunning beaches with rocky outlets. A little further west is Peaceful Bay, a quaint little village that offers a mix of fishing, snorkelling, relaxing and 4 wheel driving.
